  • About the project:

Intelligent Fermentation Automation — Transparency, Control and Stable Product Quality

Aprotec Engineering implemented a fully integrated fermentation process automation system at a modern dairy plant in Kazakhstan. The project includes automated control of 19 fermentation tanks, connection to pasteurization-cooling units (PCU), and seamless integration with Galdi, FinnPack and Flex Tetra Pak filling and packaging lines.

The architecture is built on Siemens PLC with centralized control via a WinCC SCADA system, complemented by a 22” HMI touch panel. The solution unifies fermentation, CIP, pasteurization, filling and packaging into a single automated platform, ensuring reliability, accuracy and minimal human intervention.

Unified control logic — from pasteurization to final packaging. Full process transparency in real time.

Why Investments in Fermentation Automation Pay Off

The automation system delivers clear operational and financial value for dairy production:

  • Reduced product losses — conductivity sensors, anti-mixing valves and automated routing ensure clean phases and prevent unwanted media mixing.
  • Increased production capacity — Siemens PLC integration with PCU and packaging lines boosts output without additional personnel.
  • Minimized downtime — segment-based CIP cleaning and intelligent flow management support a continuous, non-stop production cycle.
  • Stable and repeatable product quality — automated control of temperature, level, recipes and fermentation phases reduces deviations and operator errors.
  • Scalable architecture — new tanks, lines or modules can be easily integrated into the existing SCADA structure.
  • Process transparency and batch reporting — real-time access to all production parameters improves traceability and operational control.
The solution is based on Aprotec Core Standard — a development framework ensuring unified interfaces, standardized workflows and reduced human factor risks.

Key Results for the Dairy Plant

  • Reduced product losses and improved dosing accuracy
  • Higher throughput of the fermentation process
  • Continuous operation of critical production areas without stopping adjacent lines
  • Full batch traceability and real-time SCADA monitoring
  • Scalable infrastructure ready for new tanks, filling lines or auxiliary systems

A Future-Ready Automation Platform

The system provides stable operations, reduced operational risks and a scalable digital platform ready for further expansion and integration of new production modules.
